A Chemist is a scientist who specializes in the field of Chemistry. Chemistry is the branch of science that studies the behavior and interaction of elements. A Chemist's job involves investigating, analyzing, and assessing chemical reactions and properties by examining components, molecules, atoms, and substances. Their work is set towards researching and understanding the behavior of elements and their Chemistry to take advantage of their potential and practical uses.

There are many sub-fields of chemistry, including analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, or nuclear chemistry. These sub-fields usually feed into different industries in the workplace. For example, if you are interested in pharmaceutical research, organic or medicinal chemistry would be the sub-field you would specialize in.

Almost every industry benefits from the research and expertise of Chemists. The most common one is cosmetics. Everything from shampoo to soap to lotions is formulated under a chemist's expertise who ensures that products that go to market are safe and effective.

Personality of a Chemist
Because Chemistry is a hard science, Chemists need to have an aptitude for understanding scientific concepts and math. Here are some other personality traits that can help you become a successful Chemist.
  • Analytical skills
Chemists perform scientific experiments and need to report and measure their results to maintain the accuracy and validity of their research carefully and accurately.
  • Communication skills
Chemists often have to write reports or papers, communicate with lab colleagues, and present their research findings at conferences. These tasks all require good communication skills and the ability to translate their research into a more accessible language.
  • Organizational skills
Chemists often have to document their processes to conform to industry regulations carefully. Disorganization within a Chemistry lab can lead to work delays. Worse, it can lead to situations in which safety can be compromised.
  • Problem-solving skills
The work of a Chemist often involves some trial and error. Chemists need to be tenacious and find creative solutions to the problems they are tasked with solving.
