Graphic Designers are artists who work in marketing, branding, and advertising. They design graphics, logos, and brand assets for any number of possible clients.

Graphic Designers can work in several different workplaces. They may work for a small graphic design studio, where they have a team of fellow artists working on client projects. Larger companies often hire graphic Designers to work in-house and work with marketing and branding teams to prepare assets on a more continuous basis.

A number of Graphic Designers are also self-employed as freelancers. Freelancing offers the advantage of being able to pick the projects and clients you want to work for, but it also offers less stability than full-time employment. Think about your priorities and what you want out of a job before you decide which route is best for you.

The market for Graphic Designers is very competitive. The best outlooks are for Graphic Designers who can also work in web design or photo editing. In contrast, work in industries such as publishing and newspapers is shrinking.

 Personality of a Graphic Designer
Graphic Designers need skills in both art and design to be good at their jobs. However, you should also possess the following personality traits if you want to succeed on this career path:

  • Great listening skills

Listening properly helps you understand the client's needs, and will allow you to ask good questions to comprehend the project and deliver satisfactory results quickly.

  • Good time management

Graphic Designers often have multiple projects in different stages on the go at once and are often juggling multiple deadlines. You need to be very organized, be able to prioritize, and realize that you may not have enough time to tweak things to perfection.
  • Ability to take criticism

No one likes having their hard work picked apart. However, designers need to be able to take feedback from clients and other stakeholders to improve their work. You need to have a thick skin and take feedback graciously without getting defensive.
