A Marketing Manager is a seasoned marketing professional who oversees all marketing activities for the company they work for. Generally speaking, Marketing Managers start off working in other marketing positions, and then as they build their experience, they move into a position in which they manage their team.

A Marketing Manager generally has an interest in both marketing and management principles and seeks to guide their team to get the best results from their marketing efforts.

A Marketing Manager must work with many other departments within their organization, such as graphic designers, copywriters, finance, and sales. They need to have great collaborative skills and get the whole company to back their marketing vision. They need to understand all aspects of the marketing funnel and have a very clear understanding of their brand and their customer base.

Personality of a Marketing Manager
Marketing Managers tend to be outgoing, sociable, and detail-oriented people. They generally enjoy working on creative projects and are good at managing timelines, budgets, and varied stakeholders. Marketing Managers also tend to have:

  • Great People Skills
Marketing is about connecting with people and giving them relevant information to form a positive association with the brand. These projects often require coordinating efforts with sales, communication, and design teams which means Marketing Managers need great people skills to get all parties on the same page. They also need to have good people skills and read into their customer's behavior to serve them better.

  • Data Interpretation Skills
Marketing Managers need to review all their marketing data, read into the numbers, and make strategic decisions based on the data. They need to have both the data interpretation skills and the strategic vision for their marketing goals.

  • Creative Problem-Solving Skills
Marketing Managers are often tasked with growing sales, improving traffic, building social media presence, and doing it fast, and giving measurable results to higher-ups. This requires creativity, problem-solving skills, and a good attitude.
