A Realtor is a certified professional who is a member of the National Realtor association in their practicing country. For example, in the United States, this is the National Association of Realtors (NRA), and in Canada, the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA). Realtors are responsible for helping the transaction of property and real estate for both buyers and sellers. They help buyers find a home and carry out various tasks involved in this process, from showing properties to aligning their clients' paperwork.

The term Realtor is trademarked, and to become a Realtor, you must undergo a series of training milestones to earn the title. Realtors must comply with a code of ethics and conduct created in 1913. If found uncompliant, the Realtor will lose their standing to work as a certified Realtor.

The term Realtors is often used interchangeably with Real Estate Agents, Appraisers, Property Managers, Brokers, Salespeople, and other people involved in the Real Estate industry, but this inaccurate.  Realtors are certified, real estate salespeople.

Personality of a Realtor:
  • Flexible
Realtors need to be flexible as per their client's requests. Realtors do not work typical 9-5 days. Instead, they work around the clock and their client's schedules. Realtors are responsible for arranging visits and need to organize the best available timing for all parties involved. Flexibility is a fundamental characteristic for any Realtor.

  • Friendly
Realtors work entirely on commission, so to make their salary, they need to complete transactions, and to complete transactions, they need to be trusted by their clients. As a result, Realtors will benefit from being friendly and professional to gain a positive reputation and ultimately sell to their clients.

  • Alert
Realtors need to be regional experts, staying on top of housing availability and the local laws to excel in their field. With new properties becoming available all the time, Realtors need to work directly with sellers and buyers to help achieve their goals. It means that Realtors need to be alert and persistent when working within the real estate market.
