Writers are much more than the literary, bookish types that the movies always seem to portray. Making a career out of writing can be an exciting and rewarding experience given the various avenues available for employment in this field. Still, what you may expect to see when you think of a Writer, whether for pleasure or professional gain, is what you get. Writers masterfully adapt words from their language of expertise and weave them together to create stories, poetry, scripts, and a host of other media and written materials.

Depending on the subject matter of their writing, Writers may need to familiarize themselves with a slew of different topics. For example, an SEO writer could begin a project about weather patterns and finish their day with a website writing exercise about how sound is produced in headphones. Writers are quite skilled at research due to scanning and scouring web pages to absorb a little bit of everything regarding their knowledge on a topic or subject. Other examples could pertain to authors who may be writing about a specific historical period. To sound legitimate, they must immerse themselves in the same culture they are subject to writing.

One could argue then that writers are chameleons or hybrids, performing multiple tasks and jobs in pursuit of their goal of creating a piece of art or something tangible for the masses to consume.

Personality of a Writer
  • They are disciplined
If there is one thing that is certain about Writers, it's that they all require some form of self-discipline to maintain their progress and finish a project on time. There are many tools and tricks Writers can look to help their progress, whether using a writing app that tracks their process or taking scheduled breaks between writing milestones to clear the mind and look at the page with a fresh pair of eyes. Whatever your process, remember to stay on track!

  • They are creative
Creative genius is not static, meaning that it's not resistant to change, particularly with the ebbs and flows that come with mastering your written piece. For writers of all types, creativity is something they possess, but it doesn't always come naturally - sometimes you have to work for it! Writers will often look to their own experiences for inspiration, which is a form of creativity in itself.

  • They are determined
Writing does not always come easy. There will be times when motivation escapes even the hardest working Writers, so staying on task and determined to complete the project will benefit any Writer in any industry. What this looks like for you really depends on your work habits. Try setting up a reward system that drives you to stay motivated!
