Event Planners are the party planners of the Hospitality Industry. Whenever a company or individual needs to use a venue for a special event, including weddings, they contact the Event Planner. These quick-thinking and dynamic professionals know how to handle all the behind-the-scenes details that come with planning events.

Event planning as a career can appear differently, depending on the employer and place of business. Some Event Planners work for an agency or charity, while others are employed exclusively by venues. Differences in the roles can boil down to the kind of events the space caters to and for whom they're targeted. An Event Planner, for instance, working for a charity, will have to handle fundraising efforts, or an Event Coordinator working for a sales and marketing team in another industry will be responsible for running frequent conference events to showcase their brand.

Event Planners organize and coordinate every aspect of the experience, from guests to food and beverages, staff, security, and entertainment. They may also decorate the venue according to the client's requirements and provide set-up and takedown of essentials like technological equipment.

Personality of an Event Planner
  • They have a penchant for the details
Event Planning is not for the disorganized. There are impossible details and issues to navigate which no ordinary person can be relied on to remember. Whether planning for a wedding or a work party, Event Planners know exactly where to start and how to handle the particulars as they come, relying on their keen organization and preparation skills to help them make an event worth remembering.

  • They are sociable
This line of work is not for the introverted. Event Planning requires face-to-face interactions, frequent meetings with clients and venues to smooth out details, cold calling, and regular check-ins by phone or email to ensure the schedule and budget are on track. Social skills also go a long way when making an impression and could help secure upgrades and additional rewards with participating businesses.

  • They are calm and calculated
If you've ever been to a rained-out wedding, you'll know that events do not always go according to plan. Seasoned Event Planners are always ahead of the problem, however. Their organized nature and careful planning help them anticipate disaster before it strikes. Their level-headedness also gives them an edge when making quick decisions that can make or break the events' success.
