Insurance Agents work for insurance companies, and their job is to sell life, property, health, or car insurance. They offer all the products provided by the company or companies they work for to individuals, companies, commercial businesses, or other organizations that may require their services.

Being a salesperson, an Insurance Agent must possess extensive knowledge of all the products and policies available in the company they work for. They are usually the people who directly interact with clients and customers. An Insurance Agent will evaluate the clients’ necessities and other aspects of their profile to offer them the most well-suited product for their needs.

Insurance Agents are commonly confused with Insurance Brokers. While the two work by selling all kinds of insurance policies to their respective clients, Insurance Agents work directly for one or more insurance companies, only promoting and selling their products. On the other hand, Insurance Brokers work independently from insurance companies. They may promote and sell products from different companies, even combining different types of insurance from different companies to meet their clients’ needs. The two often work closely together; Insurance Agents promote their company’s products to Insurance Brokers, who then, in turn, sell them to their clients.

Personality of an Insurance Agent
What kind of person succeeds as an Insurance Agent? Certainly, a background in the industry helps, but some personality traits seem common among top performers in the field. Here are three of them:
  • Persistence
A successful Insurance Agent is someone who doesn't give up easily. They're the type of person who is always looking for new leads and finding ways to reach potential customers. They understand that the sales process can be long and frustrating at times, but they're willing to stick with it until they get the results they're looking for.
  • Confidence
A successful Insurance Agent is also someone confident in their abilities. They believe in their product, and they're not afraid to sell it. They can handle rejection and know how to overcome objections. This confidence allows them to close more sales and earn more commission.
  • People skills
Finally, a successful Insurance Agent is usually someone who has great people skills. They're outgoing, and they enjoy working with others. They can build relationships quickly and know how to put people at ease. This allows them to build trust with potential customers, which is essential in the insurance industry.
