Bodyguards work for specialized security agencies that assign them to guard certain clients or clients who require additional protection. Many security agencies hire applicants with extensive military or Law Enforcement backgrounds and experience, provided they are correctly licensed. Aspirants with this type of previous knowledge usually have the proper training foundations, aptitudes, and skills to take on the job.

Depending on the client's profile, a Bodyguard may have to take on dangerous and life-threatening situations. When working with heads of state, Bodyguards need to be fully committed to their job to the point where they might have to put their own life on the line to protect the person they're working for.

A Bodyguard will typically review their client's agenda and plot out driving routes to get from point A to point B. They may also work with owners of restaurants and shopping centers to have their clients come in from a back or side entrance in the interest of safety. They also need to listen to their client and discuss any potential stalking or cyberbullying concerns.
