Electricians play a vital role in maintaining society's connectivity. They install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a range of electrical equipment, keeping us online, well-lit, and protected from the outdoors. They work with the wiring and control equipment through which electricity flows.

Electricians install and maintain electrical equipment and machines in factories and a wide range of other businesses, preventing hazardous situations simultaneously. This component of an Electrician's workday is critical since complying with operational safety requirements is of the highest importance. Following their inspection, they conduct thorough maintenance tests, report any issues discovered, and resolve any design or installation issues as needed.

Plenty of time and effort goes into gathering information from pre-maintenance work orders to determine the location and the kind of work to be done before getting started. A significant degree of initiative and self-supervision is required to stay focused and on-task, especially when working independently. Successful Electricians also rely on their creativity and ability to visualize solutions to develop new insights and apply novel solutions to problems. They will need to delve into these skills to analyze, collect, calculate, and compare data in their reports.

Roles and responsibilities of an Electrician
Here's a non-exhaustive list of everyday tasks Electricians are required to complete:
  • Determine and calculate requirements after studying the necessary layouts and any applicable regulations.
  • Install several electrical systems, always adhering to safety regulations and ensuring efficient energy consumption and distribution.
  • Set up lighting systems with all necessary components (e.g., switches, breakers, and sensors) and provide regular maintenance.
  • Installing, inspecting, and replacing, or repairing generators and alternators.
  • Arrange wire systems to complete the necessary circuitries.
  • Perform tests on wires and electrical circuits to verify their conductivity and functionality.
  • Install electric outlets to connect electrical appliances, considering standardized voltage levels.
  • Identify electrical problems using adequate equipment and replacing wires and devices if necessary.
  • Apply the required troubleshooting processes, from establishing whether the equipment is plugged in or not to looking at computerized diagnostics to locate the problem.
  • Repair faulty wiring and connections when necessary to prevent damage and hazardous conditions.
  • Ensure the effective and safe functioning of electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Use specific tools (e.g., voltmeters and ammeters) to test electrical and electronic equipment's continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Confirm that all electrical devices, systems, electrical wiring, and tools meet the safety, compatibility, and construction requirements and replace them when necessary (e.g., failure to meet the established codes, defects, and unrepairable damage).
  • Inspect and maintain old wiring and any stripped cable to prevent any accident or breakdown of systems.
  • Provide input and solutions related to any design or installation issues.
  • Ensure all maintenance operations comply with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Keep track of all maintenance work and draft reports when necessary.
  • Assist the Construction Manager in the coordination of on-site activities.
