An Insurance Agent is responsible for the sale and service of insurance policies. They work with clients to determine their needs and then find the best policy to fit those needs. They may also be responsible for handling claims and providing customer service.

An Insurance Agent's duties vary depending on the type of insurance they sell. Health Insurance Agents help clients choose plans that cover medical expenses. Life Insurance Agents sell policies that pay out a death benefit to beneficiaries. Property and Casualty Insurance Agents sell coverage for homes, automobiles, and businesses.

Many Insurance Agents are independent contractors who work with multiple insurance companies. They may also work for a single company, known as a captive agent. Captive agents can only sell the products of the company they work for.

Some Insurance Agents specialize in a particular type of insurance, such as long-term care insurance or disability insurance. Others sell multiple types of insurance. Insurance Agents must be licensed in the states where they do business. They must also complete continuing education courses to keep their license up-to-date.
