  • Position Summary
  • The
  • Youth Program Director II
  • provides strategic leadership and oversight for multiple Out of School Time programs at the Stonestown Family YMCA. This role is responsible for ensuring program excellence, operational effectiveness, and compliance with safety standards. The Director collaborates with internal teams and external partners to support the YMCA’s youth development goals, cultivating inclusive environments that meet the needs of participants and families. Key responsibilities include staff supervision, program planning, and community engagement, as well as oversight of budgets, contracts, and program evaluation. The Director works in close partnership with senior leadership to align program operations with broader organizational priorities and actively contributes to philanthropic efforts, including the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign.

    • Provide oversight for a portfolio of after-school program sites at the Stonestown Family YMCA, ensuring consistent implementation of YMCA standards and expectations.
    • Lead the successful planning, execution, and evaluation of Power Scholar Academy (PSA), ensuring alignment with academic, social-emotional, and mission-based goals.
    • Guide and support instructional teams in delivering data-informed teaching practices that foster academic and social-emotional growth.
    • Monitor and support enrichment activities, student engagement strategies, and community-building initiatives across program sites.
    • Oversee classes, excursions, and specialized programming, ensuring quality and safety at all times.
    • Strategic Planning & Implementation
    • Implement the YMCA of Greater San Francisco’s strategic vision for Out of School Time programs with a focus on continuous improvement, safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
    • Collaborate with Associate Executive Director and Senior Directors to adapt youth development strategies to meet the evolving needs of the community.
    • Apply strategic thinking, problem-solving, and change management practices to strengthen program outcomes and team effectiveness.
    • Staff Development & Supervision
    • Supervise, coach, and support site leadership and program staff, promoting a culture of learning, accountability, and growth.
    • Conduct staff observations and performance check-ins, including during Power Scholar Academy, to support professional development.
    • Align team practices with YMCA leadership competencies, staff development plans, and evaluation systems.
    • Family & Community Engagement
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with families, staff, volunteers, school personnel, and community partners.
    • Develop and implement systems to promote student development and family engagement, supporting holistic success for children and caregivers.
    • Fiscal Management & Compliance
    • Manage program budgets, including monitoring expenditures and financial reporting for assigned programs.
    • Administer contracts, service agreements, and independent contractor relationships to ensure operational compliance.
    • Prepare programmatic reports for funders and ensure adherence to grant requirements and evaluation protocols.
    • Philanthropy & Organizational Engagement
    • Lead site-level participation in the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign and other fundraising efforts.
    • Cultivate a culture of philanthropy among staff, volunteers, and board members through active engagement and storytelling.
    • Support branch-wide leadership initiatives, including marketing, communications, and participation in special events.
    • Safety & Risk Management
    • Ensure that all programs adhere to YMCA policies related to child safety, mandated reporting, supervision ratios, and risk management.
    • Promote a safe and supportive environment across all program activities, including during school year and summer offerings.
    • Qualifications
    • 21+ years old; 3+ years of experience in youth programs with supervisory responsibilities.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
    • Availability Monday through Friday, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed. This position is primarily in-person.
    • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, and religious diversity.
    • Familiarity with schools and community-based organizations.
    • Fingerprint and TB test clearance, YMCA-approved First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
    • Preferred Qualifications (Optional)
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in youth development or coaching.
    • Experience working within SFUSD school system.
    • Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin.
    • Credits for After-School & CA State Licensing experience; Y-USA Team Leader Certification
    • Work Environment & Physical Demands
    • You will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment at school and program sites, interacting with youth, families, and school staff in both indoor and outdoor settings.
    • The role involves frequent standing, walking, bending, and engaging in physical activities, with occasional administrative duties requiring computer work
    • Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds, participate in recreational activities, and must respond quickly and safely to emergencies.
    • The environment requires maintaining a clean, safe space while fostering collaboration with YMCA staff, school partners, and community members.
    • You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
    • All employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationship over minors. Fingerprints will be taken upon commencement of employment and will be submitted to the Association Office human resources department prior to beginning the first day of work.
    • Staff working on school campuses may be required to complete additional COVID safety trainings
