Overview
Join to apply for the Cloud Field Engineering Manager role at Canonical .
This is an opportunity to run a field engineering team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and in their own data centers. We work across the spectrum of cloud offerings, from Ubuntu itself to virtualization and private cloud, Kubernetes, and the implementation of open source solutions such as MLops platforms and data platforms. As we expand into new industries, we design and develop open source solutions to meet customer needs.
We believe Engineering Managers should be outstanding engineers who can troubleshoot technical issues and conduct technical presales conversations with customers. They contribute to project delivery, while shaping the team's direction, focus, and delivery. We grow management skills and train engineers who are interested in soft skills to become managers. Our goal is to make open source easier, more reliable, and more secure for deployment and development.
The role
The Cloud Field Engineering Manager leads Canonical’s Field Engineering team of cloud solutions architects. The team works directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions fitting workload needs. The product portfolio includes on-premise options such as Openstack, MicroCloud, and Ceph, and deployments that can be on-premises or in public clouds (e.g., Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, etc.). The team deploys, tests, and handovers solutions to support or managed services after projects. Managers and team members participate in presales conversations to provide technical advice during the sales process.
A Cloud Field Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance, developing engineering talent, representing the team technically, and driving collaboration with other teams and customers. Active participation in technical presales is expected to help achieve quarterly goals.
