Job description

The Behavior Support Specialist (BSS) provides evidence-based, person-centered behavior support services to individuals through KY Medicaid Waivers (SCL, MPW). All individuals providing behavior support services for Already Autism Health d.b.a Commonwealth ABA shall adhere to the SCL and the MPW Regulations or other funding regulations. This is a part-time build to full-time position.

Must live in the state of Kentucky.

Qualifications :

Education : Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or a related field.

Experience : Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, preferably in a behavioral support role.

Experience with the Supports for Community Living Waiver and / or Michelle P Waiver program is a plus.

Job duties :

The work of a Behavior Support Specialist (BSS) involves :

Assessment and Planning :

o Conduct functional behavior assessments to identify the causes of challenging behaviors.

o Develop and implement individualized Positive Behavior Support (PBS) plans tailored to each participant's needs.

o Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive support.

Implementation and Training :

o Provide direct support and intervention to individuals, modeling positive behavior strategies.

o Train caregivers and other team members on PBS techniques and crisis intervention strategies.

o Monitor and document progress, adjusting plans as necessary based on data collected.

Collaboration and Communication :

o Work closely with families and team members to educate them on behavior strategies and involve them in the support process.

o Maintain open lines of communication with team members, sharing insights and updates on client progress.

o Participate in team meetings and case reviews to discuss participant needs and progress.

Compliance and Documentation :

o Ensure all interventions and strategies are in compliance with state regulations and agency policies.

o Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, plans, and participant progress.

Professional Development :

o Stay informed about best practices in positive behavior support and relevant research.

o Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Skills :

o Strong understanding of positive behavior support principles and strategies.

o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

o Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Certifications :

CPR / First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Additional training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or related fields is preferred.
