Sun River Health is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia, and Westchester County. Sun River Health is currently seeking a part-time Dentist to join our team at our Inwood Health Center and St. Ann's Avenue, Bronx site.

A Dentist provides dental care to patients of the agency by diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums and all other duties as assigned. S / he performs job duties in compliance with systems and job-specific standards.

Essential Responsibilities and Job Duties :

• Oversees dental team at the site, D&S oversight at the site, weekly order oversight, directs staff on identifying and reporting equipment that needs repair, attends site staff and leadership meetings, attends departmental meetings, communicates and coordinates with HCD, DDO, CDO issues at the site related to dental operations.
• Performs root canal therapy on anterior teeth and other teeth where root canal anatomy is within the dentist's skill set.
• Reviews findings from full mouth periodontal exam on adults (25+) to diagnose perio disease and design a perio tx plan.
• Takes impressions and models of jaws and teeth in preparation for dentures and crowns.
• Consults with heads of other patient care services in planning the most appropriate dental treatment to be used, for coordinating patient problems (behavioral, medical; etc.).
• Extracts infected or otherwise diseased / hopeless teeth.
• Provides preventive dentistry counseling, anticipatory guidance, and evaluation of nutritional status and oral hygiene habits of patients with or without the aid of a dental hygienist.
• Locates and repairs cavities in teeth following discussion of findings with dental radiographs to formulate a treatment plan.
• Completes examination of the patient’s teeth, gums, and surrounding structures using a mouth mirror, dental explorer, periodontal probe, dental instruments, and other diagnostic aids such as dental radiographic images from dental x-rays, to enter clinical findings from intraoral / extraoral head and neck evaluation including oral cancer screening; tobacco use screening; dental caries detection, periodontal disease exam, oral pathology, etc. with the help of a dental assistant, in Open Dental and in the patient's eCW medical record to formulate and carry out the most feasible plan of treatment.
