Principal Internal Auditor
The Bonadio Group is currently seeking a Principal to play a key role on our Internal Audit team in our Albany, New York location. This position assists in providing internal audit coverage of the Financial Institution Group clients to determine that internal controls provide adequate safeguards, to ensure the client's general operating efficiency and compliance with laws, regulations, managerial policies, and generally accepted accounting principles.
Responsibilities
- Lead the creation of annual risk assessments and design a comprehensive audit schedulemaking sure every audit's scope, depth, and frequency match the level of risk
- Plan and execute audits from start to finish, ensuring every Client Audit Plan milestone is met, including sending Request Letters ahead of schedule.
- Dive into data gathering and analysis, delivering audit results that align with Institute of Internal Auditors standards.
- Interview client teams to uncover the insights you need and translate them into meaningful recommendations.
- Keep clients informedsharing updates, critical findings, and problem-solving ideas in real time.
- Document your work with clear, organized work papers that show the "how" and "why" behind every conclusion.
- Recommend smarter ways to approach audits so we stay efficient, on budget, and deliver value to our clients.
- Safeguard confidentialityprotecting every detail and document entrusted to you.
- Prepare Audit / Supervisory Committee packets, deliver written materials on time, and confidently present findings to committees.
- Schedule and assign audits strategically to keep workloads balanced and timelines on track.
- Lead and mentor audit stafffrom coordinating workflow and offering guidance to training and developing new team members.
- Partner with leadership on recruiting, interviewing, and hiring new team talent.
- Stay sharp on evolving banking regulations and ensure our compliance audit programs stay current and effective.
- Approve program updates and maintain centralized files for programs, memos, testing worksheets, and request lists.
- Prepare and communicate engagement letter renewal terms, ensuring clients have clarity and confidence.
- Respond quickly and thoughtfully to client questionswhether about in-progress audits or broader needs.
- Collaborate with external auditors and federal and state examiners, providing the information they need seamlessly.
- Support partners in crafting proposals for new and existing clients.

Required :
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related fieldA minimum of eight years of related experienceRecent client-service experience and confidence presenting to executives or boardsCreative problem-solving and a systems-minded approachReliable transportation for client and office visitsWillingness to travel 3050% of the timePreferred :
CIA, CFE, CBA, CRCM or similar certifications desirableStrong organizational and analytical skills with a self-starter attitudeFamiliarity with Microsoft Office Suite and ProSystems or similar audit softwareAbility to distill complex data, regulations, or reports into clear insightsThe salary range for this role is $95,000 to $110,000 per year.
Hours of Operation :
