Job description

Koniag Data Solutions, a Koniag Government Services company , is seeking a Senior COBOL Developer with a Secret clearance to support KDS and our government customer in Kettering, OH. This is a hybrid opportunity.

Koniag Data Solutions, is seeking a skilled Senior COBOL Developer to join our team. This role is critical in maintaining and enhancing legacy systems while supporting modernization initiatives within production and potential development / testing environments. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in COBOL programming and mainframe environments, with a strong understanding of business applications.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to :

The Senior COBOL Developer will maintain, enhance, and support critical business applications written in COBOL within the DISA mainframe environment. Principal responsibilities include but are not limited to :

Analyze, design, code, test, and implement applications using COBOL, COBOL Language Extender (COBOL LE), IBM MVS JCL, and IDEAL

Utilize tools such as DISA Multi-host Internet Access Portal (MIAP) and Reflection ZFE for 3270 terminal emulation within HTML-5 capable browsers

Diagnose and resolve production issues in a timely manner

Create and maintain technical documentation including :

Create and maintain application operating and installation instructions

Interface diagrams, architectural views, and other product design documentation

Interface Control Documents (ICD) for the Corporate Data Repository System (CDRS)

Create and provide information for Software Installation Plans (SIP)

Perform code reviews and mentor junior developers

Support FTP and SFTP transmission operations

Implement Help Desk resolutions, including identified issues from Level II and Level III tickets

Ensure STIG compliance by applying all approved STIGs to applications as they are issued

Monitor daily database load and interface applications for successful completion

Provide technical support for the maintenance and modification of data and related software modules

Handle Change Requests (CR) and Deficiency Reports (DR) in the Information System Management Tool (ISMT)

Support an estimated 2-3 releases annually, including sprint and release documentation

Participate in scrum ceremonies and determine sprint frequency

Provide ongoing technical support to the Cross Domain Team (CDT) by extracting data, building and running queries and reports, and fulfilling ad hoc data requests

Create test cases, test results, test reports and summaries

Provide meeting agendas, record and track project team meeting minutes for monthly and ad hoc meetings

Participate in on-call rotation for production support

Education and Experience :

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience)

10+ years of experience in COBOL programming

5+ years of experience with JCL, VSAM, DB2, and CICS

Experience with mainframe debugging tools and utilities

Experience with DISA mainframe environments, preferred

CompTIA Security+ Certification (current)

Required Skills and Competencies :

Active Secret Clearance

Proficiency in COBOL, COBOL LE, IBM MVS JCL, IDEAL, and related mainframe technologies

Experience with DISA MIAP and Reflection ZFE for 3270 terminal emulation in HTML-5 capable browsers

Strong understanding of mainframe architecture and operating systems (z / OS, MVS)

Experience with batch processing and online transaction processing

Ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues in production environments

Knowledge of STIG compliance requirements and implementation

Experience with FTP and SFTP protocols and transmission support

Familiarity with Help Desk ticketing systems and resolution processes

Ability to create and maintain technical documentation including ICDs, SIPs, and architectural diagrams

Experience with database monitoring, data extraction, and reporting

Knowledge of software development methodologies and best practices

Experience with Change Request and Deficiency Report management

Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Time management skills with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

Other responsibilities :
