The JCC of Central New Jerseyis a non-profit agency whose mission is to educate, enrich and empower ourcommunity – from generation to generation. The JCC offers educational,recreational, fitness & wellness, cultural and communal programs andactivities to people of all abilities and all stages of life.
Summary of Position :
The Fitness Director isresponsible for overseeing the daily operations, staffing, budgeting andprogramming of the Fitness Center, ensuring a high-quality, member-focusedexperience for all users. This role supports, develops, and evaluates fitnessstaff while creating a welcoming, inclusive, and results-driven environment.The Fitness Director plays a key role in member engagement by designinginnovative programming, responding to member feedback, and staying current withindustry trends. This is a 40 hour per week, Overtime Exempt position reportingto the Senior Director of Membership.
Key Responsibilities :
Staff Supervision, Operations &Fiscal Management
- Provideleadership and management oversight of the Fitness department
- Hire, supervise, train, and evaluatefitness staff on an ongoing basis
- Develop and implement operationalpolicies and procedures for the fitness center, ensuring consistency, safety,and efficiency
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcomingfitness facility at all times
- Manage fitness center repairs andfacility needs
- Collaborate with leadership to assess andimprove operational effectiveness
- Create, manage and track programs andpersonal training in CRM
- Oversee fitness center related apps andschedules
- Develop, monitor and adjust the fitnesscenter budget on an ongoing basis
- Other relevant duties as assigned
Customer Service & Member Engagement
Provideexceptional customer service in person, by phone, and via emailServeas a key point of contact for participant concerns; work proactively with theSenior Director of Membership and the Health and Wellness Director to resolveissues and enhance member satisfactionDevelopand oversee year-round programming to engage a wide range of populations andincrease the value of JCC membershipProgram & Service Delivery
Scheduleand coordinate personal training sessions for both new and existing clientsDevelop,monitor and evaluate group fitness program offeringsDesignand deliver individual and small-group training programs aligned with clientgoals and abilitiesSupportthe development and implementation of fitness initiatives to increase memberparticipation and retentionProfessional Development & IndustryAwareness
Stayinformed of current fitness trends and best practicesApplynew knowledge to enhance programs, training methods, and member experiencesRequired Qualifications & Skills :
Bachelor'sdegree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, or a related fieldpreferredCurrentnational certification from an accredited fitness organization (e.g., NASM,ACSM, ACE, NSCA)CPR / AEDcertification required3+years of experience managing a fitness centerStronginterpersonal and leadership skills; ability to motivate staff and buildcommunity among membersExperiencewith managing a budget and working with excel preferredExcellentorganizational and communication skillsPhysical Requirements :
