Job Description\n

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit position requiring strong neuro experience and a WV or compact RN license.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Position located in an acute care Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
  • Unit has 31 beds (25 Stepdown, 6 EMU) with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 : 3 for stepdown and 1 : 5-6 for EMU
  • Typical patient population includes higher acuity neuroscience cases such as EVD, TPA post-treatment, strokes, seizures, and craniotomies
  • Common titratable drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and insulin
  • Utilizes Epic EMR; Epic experience required
  • RNs may float to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W as needed
  • Day shift : three 12-hour shifts, 7am-7 : 30pm, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • Weekend and holiday rotation required
  • Charge nurse and respiratory therapy staff available 24 / 7
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • RNs provide care for neuro patients with diverse and complex conditions
  • All stepdown-qualified RNs must be proficient with neuro nursing protocols
  • Charge nurse is available at all times for support
  • First-time travelers may be considered
  • Returning employees must have a 2-year break from previous employment or travel assignments within the health system
  • Initial orientation consists of two shifts on the unit
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required, with medical or religious exemptions considered

  • Active WV or compact RN license
  • Minimum 2 years of recent neuro stepdown experience required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Ability to titrate medication drips as ordered
  • Must live more than 50 miles from the facility
