Description :
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who coordinates patient care delivery by the healthcare team.
Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems.
The RN develops and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the patient's response.
The RN promotes safe passage for their patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment.
The RN assists patients to transition through their healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays.
The RN delegates interventions to healthcare personnel based on each patient's condition and the competencies of the employee.
The RN is responsible for providing care in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24 / 7 staffing.
Essential Functions of the Role :
Using clinical reasoning, the RN conducts accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards.
The RN identifies and prioritizes patient and family needs, developing and evaluating the nursing plan of care.
The RN modifies the plan to meet clinical outcomes.
The RN evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, supporting evidence-based changes through research utilization.
The RN creates a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients.
The RN develops therapeutic relationships with patients and families while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
The RN recognizes and incorporates patients' unique differences into an individualized plan of care.
The RN preserves and protects the confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights of patients and families.
The RN facilitates learning for patients, families, and healthcare team members.
The RN collaborates with colleagues and community members to develop and implement an integrated plan of care.
The RN uses strategies and available resources for problem-solving related to patient care.
The RN is committed to ongoing professional growth through continuing education and involvement in professional organizations.
Key Success Factors :
Knowledge and understanding of nursing and patient care standards and procedures.
Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations governing the provision of nursing care.
Knowledge of medical terminology and principles of health promotion, risk reduction, and disease prevention.
Ability to communicate thoughts clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of constituencies.
