Med / Surg RN Job Details Location : Newport News, VA 23601 (Virginia nursing jobs) Healthcare Setting : Medical-Surgical (Med / Surg) Unit Assignment Type : Travel RN, On-Site Start Date : December 8, 2025 Assignment Length : 13 weeks Shift : 12-hour day shifts Hours per Week : 36 Estimated Weekly Salary Range : $1740 - $1860 Registered Nurse Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state preferred) BLS Certification (required prior to first shift) ACLS Certification (required prior to first shift) Minimum 2 years of recent bedside clinical experience in a hospital setting Experience in PCU, Critical Care, or Step-Down units preferred Med / Surg RN Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans for medical-surgical patients Deliver direct patient care utilizing the nursing process : assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation Accurately document all patient assessments, interventions, and responses in the electronic health record Participate in interdisciplinary healthcare team conferences and support patient rehabilitation programs Initiate discharge planning and provide patient / family education from admission Communicate changes in patient status to the healthcare team to ensure patient safety and continuity of care Supervise and mentor Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and new staff Promote a safe hospital environment by following all healthcare safety policies and procedures Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment and contribute to staff development Assume charge nurse responsibilities as needed after orientation Ready to take your nursing career to the next level?
