SafeHome
SafeHome is developing an online resource that helps San Francisco residents assess earthquake risks by address. We’re seeking an experienced Data Scientist / Analyst to guide our data efforts and ensure the project is both impactful and sustainable.
Role Summary
We’re looking for someone who can provide leadership to uplevel our product analytics and / or data research capabilities for SafeHome. Our data-related roles fall under two umbrellas :
- Product Analytics : helping us build from 0 to 1 our ability to test, measure, and launch site features and promotion strategies to support user engagement and growth.
- Data Research : data discovery, validating data quality, for the purpose of adding trusted sources of data onsite in a scalable manner and producing analytical insights to inform how we can best prepare users for earthquakes.
You’ll collaborate closely with developers, designers, and project leads to transform raw data into actionable insights and user-friendly tools for the community.
Skills We’re Looking For
1+ years of experience / post-undergraduate education in data science , including analytics, statistical modeling and / or machine learningExperience with Python or R and data frameworks such as Pandas, NumPy, or scikit-learnKnowledge of geospatial analysis (e.g., using GeoPandas, QGIS, or similar) is a plusFamiliarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Plotly, or D3.js)Ability to design and implement data pipelines for collecting, cleaning, and analyzing dataExperience leading small data teams or mentoring other data professionalsPassion for civic technology , social impact , and open-source collaborationKey Responsibilities
Define success metrics, monitor model performance, and iterate to improve predictive accuracy and user impactEnsure data quality, including collection, cleaning, validation, and integrationDevelop strategies for presenting data insights to users through intuitive visualizations and interactive dashboardsCollaborate with front-end and back-end developers to integrate data solutions into the web applicationMentor volunteer data contributors to foster a collaborative and productive team environmentIdentify data-driven opportunities to increase user engagement and platform adoptionBenefits of Volunteering With Us
