Volunteer Service Program Manager

Responsible for planning, organizing, and the direction of activities and personnel to manage Volunteer Service programs throughout the Bronson system of care. Assess volunteer service capabilities and develops, implements, and integrates current and future Volunteer Services according to identified needs. Plans and implements recruitment strategies and recognition activities to attract and retain volunteers. Additionally plans and directs the activities of volunteers as partners with staff and leaders to advance a culture of Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC) throughout the system. Assume leadership and coordination for the strategic vision, programmatic, and education activities that promote PFCC behaviors throughout Bronson. Coordinates the Patient and Family Advisory Councils represented by patient and family members, leaders, and staff members to contribute to the missions, vision, and values of Bronson. Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Human Services or other related field. Medical Technology and preferably course work in management and / or business. 3-5 years of progressively more responsible experience in various professional and supervisory capacities. Previous experience working with volunteers or patient and family advisors within a major health system for 2 years or longer. Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan or related clinical experience preferred. Basic word processing and spreadsheet skills. Must have considerable tact and communication skills in order to negotiate with gain the acceptance of and / or change the thinking of others in difficult and complex situations. Demonstrate exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Ability to relate to diverse age cultural and demographic backgrounds. Sound understanding of the concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care. Experience in public speaking, presentation, and group facilitation strongly preferred. Work which rarely produces a high level of mental / visual fatigue i.e. less than 20 percent of the work time. The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects. Works with the leaders, medical staff, employees, and community volunteers as appropriate in the development of strategic goals and plans for the achievement of favorable outcomes. Provides administrative and operational oversight for the Volunteer and PFCC Programs throughout the Bronson System of care relating to quality program development, marketing, performance improvement, research partnerships, and care delivery. Develops and secures approval of multiple departmental budgets for areas of responsibility. Administers or delegates the administration of budgets, approving expenditures, reviewing reports, etc. Develops, approves, and (when necessary) secures approval of policies designed to ensure the attainment of agreed-upon goals for areas of responsibility. Ensures the development of the procedures necessary to implement approved policy. Coordinates the recruitment and selection process of volunteers and the PFCC Programs. Collaborate with leaders to interview, assign, provide orientation of volunteers and staff participants. Direct supervise, recognize, and support personal growth of Staff and Volunteers. Evaluates and (when necessary) disciplines and discharges subordinates. Directs and supports ways for patients and families to contribute to PFCC programming and initiatives. Facilitates open communication so that patients, families, and professionals feel free to express themselves and work collaboratively to design, implement, and evaluate improvement efforts. Coordinates the creation and functioning of hospital-based or other areas specific PFCC councils, advisory teams, committees, faculties, and programs. Collaborates with leaders to identify patient and family issues and concerns and determine possible courses of action that may improve service delivery systems, processes, and outcomes. Responsible for assessing, measuring, reporting, and continuously improving the Volunteer and PFCC Program. Build trust teamwork and promote confidentiality of patients, family, and the healthcare team. Serve on designated organization or community based committees or boards with the purpose of providing a broad consumer perspective of PFCC. Participate and contribute to the regional, national, and international exchange of information to advance the values and knowledge of patient and family centered care as required to enhance program excellence. Actively participates as a front-line example of extraordinary customer service. Coordinate and provide training to students, residents, and healthcare staff so they can effectively display PFCC behaviors and attitudes. Responsible for the promotion / marketing of departmental services to relevant customers.
