JOB SUMMARY :
Under the direction of the Vice President of Family and Provider Resources, the Director of Health, Safety & Nutrition is responsible for overseeing the Healthy Food and Health and Safety Resources programs within the Program Services division. The Director develops and implements a strategic vision to improve health, safety and nutritional practices with Cook County child care programs, with a focus on license-exempt child care programs. The Director works along IAFC leadership to ensure assigned programs are aligned with, and amplify the impact of IAFC’s organizational strategic plan.
This incumbent will be expected to promote and adhere to the workplace core capabilities of : accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement, communication, competent people and clear priorities. All work to be completed in accordance with organizational standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. The organization reserves the right to add, delete, change, or modify the essential duties and responsibilities at any time.
- Provide strategic leadership and lead the operations of Health, Safety & Nutrition programs including the Healthy Food Program (CACFP), Health & Safety Resources, and Child Care Resource Facilitators activities / outreach.
- Strategize program improvement and development so efforts stay relevant to provider and children’s issues. Work with internal and external partners, including public policy allies to promote change as necessary.
- Perform planning functions for the startup and ongoing operations of current and prospective new projects, including staffing plans, management of the workflow, and maintenance of records.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate annual goals responsive to provider needs.
- Manage all required records, including electronic and file copies, ensuring compliance with legal, contractual, and auditing requirements.
- Coordinate the preparation and dissemination of consumer education materials on behalf of parents and providers participating in health, safety, nutrition, and wellness programs and services.
- Prepare the annual budget associated with assigned cost center(s); monitor expenditures and fiscal needs, and report budget issues.
- Annually review contract exhibits for accuracy, changes, and potential edits.
- Prepare written programs, data, and financial reports as required by contracts, agreements and agency reporting needs in accordance with the program responsibilities.
- Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately. Work with members of Senior Management and Executive teams to execute meeting follow-up and project work plans.
- Ensure confidentiality of employee, parent, and provider information received and managed by Illinois Action for Children and the Illinois Department of Human Services.
- Work with Human Resources to recruit and recommend candidates for hire. Supervise staff; provide staff training and professional development; evaluate performance and promote career development.
- Participate in the Agency’s management meetings and committees.
- Identify, monitor, and implement quality control measures to ensure program outcomes are achieved. Assess program(s) efficacy and makes recommendations for adjustments as necessary.
- Inform the Vice President of Family and Provider Resources of all issues and activities related to the operation of the Health, Safety & Nutrition programs.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals on behalf of Program Services and in negotiating related contracts.
- Interface with other Illinois Action for Children programs for integrated service delivery.
- Other Functions : The Organization may assign other functions to the job at its discretion.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibility for planning, assigning, directing, and coordinating the work of the Healthy Food Program and Health and Safety Resources department.Perform employee evaluations and make pay and / or hiring decisions.Supervise the Manager of Healthy Food Program, the Manager of Health & Safety Resources, the Health & Safety Resources Facilitators, and other program staff.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and / or abilities required.
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience.Project management / planning experience required.Supervisory experience required.Experience with Child and Adult Food Program strongly preferred.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Ability to work with low to moderate income families.Understanding and respect for different cultures and value systems.Excellent writing, editing, speaking, and presentation skills.Knowledge of the Child Care Resource and Referral System is desirable.Ability to travel locally and statewide.Access to reliable personal transportation, valid driver’s license and insurance.Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.Benefits of Working at IAFC :
