We are seeking a Lead P&C Design Engineer who will lead teams performing design of high voltage electrical substation projects for electric utility companies. Experience producing design documents for the physical and / or electrical aspects of substation projects including high voltage physical arrangement, microprocessor-based protection and controls systems, AC and DC station, calculations, service systems and grounding. Must have strong leadership capabilities including the ability to lead the design of a substation project.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be responsible for the design and quality control of system protection and control projects for utility substations. This includes one-lines, three-lines, AC / DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, bill of material, etc.
- Lead a design team to develop protection and control drawings for utility customers.
- Interface with internal and external team members, such as Principal Engineers, Project Engineers, Electrical Designers, Physical Designers, Draftsmen, Project Managers, outside contractors and support organizations.
- Work with team to meet project specifications, cost control, and schedule objectives.
- Work on development of proposals including writing and / or reviewing technical specifications, estimating design man-hours and materials, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, directing designers and draftsmen on drawing requirements, and developing clarifications and exceptions as well as technical responses.
- Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to design engineers, substation design engineers, and control design staff in order to fully develop system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems.
- Train end-users on the theory, operational use, and maintenance of integrated protection and control systems.
- Promote a quality-focused culture and effectively implement SynchroGrid's thorough quality assurance program.
- Be responsible for keeping all project schedules on time and on budget.
- Maintain estimates and number of hours available per project.
- Develop change order estimates and send to customer for approval as needed.
- Maintain and update schedules in BQE Core on a weekly basis project.
- Display strengths in the areas of written communications, verbal communications, drive for results, decision quality, priority setting, planning, delegation, directing others, conflict management, informing, listening, dealing with ambiguity, customer focus, and building effective teams.
- Support marketing with technical information about company projects when requested.
- Develop strong relationships with clients and become a trusted partner.
- Identify key client interests and drivers on projects.
- Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate those objectives.
- Identify future client needs and how to better position SynchroGrid to best serve those needs.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Ability to travel, estimated 10%.Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.Exceptional organizational skills.High attention to detail.Strong computer skills, knowledge in AutoCAD / Micro-station, Microsoft Office and electrical design software such as CDEGS.Experience building client relationships.Previous experience managing staff, clients, and contracts.Previous experience with an architectural / engineering or engineering consulting firm desired.B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly desired.Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in developing settings for transmission, distribution, and generation systems. Exceptional candidates with 7 years of experience may be considered.
