We are seeking an experienced Shipping and Receiving Clerk with a background in fabrication or manufacturing to join our growing team. This role is critical to ensuring materials are properly received, documented, and staged for production, supporting the smooth operation of our fabrication shop.
Position Summary
The Shipping and Receiving Clerk will manage the flow of materials in and out of the fabrication shop, ensuring accuracy in documentation, quality verification, and material traceability. This individual will play an essential role in supporting fabrication projects by coordinating with vendors, production staff, and quality control to keep materials moving efficiently and correctly.
Key Responsibilities
- Confirm receipt of correct materials, including verifying material test reports (MTRs), packing slips, purchase orders, heat numbers, and material grades.
- Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy and quality, escalating any discrepancies to supervisors.
- Unload and load trucks safely using forklifts, pallet jacks, or appropriate rigging equipment.
- Stage and deliver materials to designated areas for fabrication teams.
- Maintain proper traceability of materials throughout the shop, ensuring correct tagging, labeling, and storage.
- Coordinate outgoing shipments, including packaging, documentation, and scheduling with vendors and carriers.
- Organize and maintain yard and storage areas to promote efficiency, accessibility, and safety.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with vendors regarding shipping schedules, discrepancies, and delivery requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all safety guidelines, quality standards, and company policies.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.Minimum 1 year of experience in shipping and receiving, preferably in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.Strong knowledge of material documentation (MTRs, packing slips, heat numbers, grades) preferred.Familiarity with steel, pipe, flanges, fittings, and other fabrication-related materials.Ability to read and interpret packing slips, purchase orders, and basic technical documents.Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes or related equipment.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to lift 50lbs and perform physical work associated with handling materials.Basic computer and data entry proficiency.Compensation and Benefits
