LSF is seeking a dedicated Counselor Support Specialist eager to make a positive impact in the lives of children and families.

Purpose & Impact :

The Counselor Support Specialist plays a vital role in providing essential services to families, including individual and family counseling and case management. Your work will include but is not limited to referrals, follow-up, and advocacy.

Essential Functions :

  • Deliver individual, group, and family counseling to youth and their families in home and community settings.
  • Provide crisis intervention counseling to families in urgent situations, as needed.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments for families facing crises.
  • Manage cases effectively, ensuring accessibility to assigned clients 24 / 7.
  • Support client families in executing their case plans through active participation.
  • Guide and assist parents in addressing their children's physical, mental, and emotional needs.
  • Maintain an active caseload in alignment with agency requirements.
  • Coordinate and advocate for community-based services to meet clients’ needs.
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals for clients and help them connect with those services.
  • Promote professional communication and teamwork with referring agencies.
  • Actively advocate for the preservation and unity of families.
  • Provide follow-up monitoring and services to families after the closure of cases.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision sessions, and inter-agency consultations regarding clients.
  • Prepare and submit required documentation regarding clients in a timely manner.
  • Uphold professional standards and ethics throughout your work.
  • Serve as a liaison by presenting agency services to schools and community organizations.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Requirements :

Must possess a valid Florida driver's license and have access to a vehicle for job-related duties, including emergencies. Capability to travel locally and beyond for professional responsibilities and training is essential. Flexibility to work long hours is required.

Education :

A Bachelor's degree in Human Services is required, along with any specific qualifications outlined by the grant source.

Experience :

A minimum of one year of experience working with troubled youth and their families is required.

Skills :

Strong written and verbal communication, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills are necessary. Ability to work effectively in a team and provide professional service to a diverse, multicultural client base is crucial.

Dependability, discretion, and good judgement are essential. Must build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and the public without direct supervision. High professional responsibility in reporting activities and conducting oneself is expected.

Other :

Demonstrating sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs of the service population is a must.

Principle Accountabilities :

  • Reports directly to the Clinical Director.
  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues, administrators, and school staff.
  • Innovates in delivering counseling services and referrals.
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive case records.
  • Adheres to agency policies and procedures at all times.
