Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Diesel and Heavy Equipment Mechanic to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mobile and stationary equipment used in quarrying, fabricating, and transporting granite. This role is critical to minimizing downtime and ensuring safe, reliable operation of heavy machinery in a demanding industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, service, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and powertrains on heavy equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance on quarry and fabrication equipment, including but not limited to:
Excavators, loaders, haul trucks, and dozers
Rock drills, wire saws, and cutting equipment
Forklifts, cranes, and material-handling equipment
Compressors, pumps, and generators
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical failures and determine repair solutions efficiently
- Perform welding, fabrication, and minor machining as needed to repair or modify equipment
- Conduct routine inspections and document maintenance, repairs, and parts usage
- Work with operations staff to schedule repairs and minimize production downtime
- Operate equipment for testing and diagnostics following repairs
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and rebuilds
- Respond to emergency breakdowns in the quarry or fabrication plant as required
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred
- 12 months of experience working on diesel and heavy equipment
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic codes
- Must be reliable, punctual, flexible, diligent, efficient, able to work with and communicate with others effectively and professionally. Problem solving is inherent in the position.
- Must be familiar with hydraulic systems, as well as air brakes. Equipment includes but is not limited to loaders, forklifts, cranes, trucks, generators, granite cutting saws, trains, drills, and compressors.
- Familiarity with granite or stone fabrication equipment preferred
- Valid driver?s license; CDL a plus
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Must be physically fit & capable of lifting at least 70 pounds +/- frequently; manual dexterity, bending, & stooping required.
- Work outdoors and indoors in varying weather and quarry conditions
- Stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work at heights as required
