Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Float Pool position requiring AL or compact RN licensure, BLS, NIHSS certifications, and at least 18 months of adult Med / Surg or ICU experience.
Responsibilities
Hospital-based Med / Surg Float Pool covering trauma surgical, neuroscience, med / surg oncology, clinical decision, orthopedics, and urology / ENT unitsPatient populations include general surgery, vascular, neuro (CVA, TBI, seizure, spinal), ortho / spine, urology, oncology, and general med / surg casesPatient ratios typically range from 1 : 5 to 1 : 6, depending on the unitProvides care to a range of adult patient conditions including trauma, stroke, joint replacements, fractures, oncology, palliative care, and complex chronic illnessesShifts are 12 hours (7 : 00 am - 7 : 00 pm), with every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month requiredNo on-call responsibilitiesFloating may occur to any like-unit or appropriate patient location based on nurse specialtyTelemetry monitoring is present in some units, and RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every 4 hoursEMR is Cerner (preferred), with some experience in either Cerner or Epic requiredThe position involves assigned home units but may require floating to similar acuity units as neededFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyFormer permanent staff must have at least 6 months lapse from last shift to be considered as a travelerOrientation includes 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit-based training for new or long-absent travelersSupport available from CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV / VAT team, telemetry techs, and hospitalistsScrub color is any color by personal choiceHoliday coverage includes working one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policyTime off may be approved up to 7 days outside of blackout dates; some blackout dates apply throughout the yearNo local candidates accepted within a 60-mile radiusRequirements
Active RN license in AL or compact state, must be in hand prior to startingAt least 18 months of recent adult Med / Surg and / or ICU RN experience requiredIf only ICU experience, Cerner experience is requiredCurrent BLS and NIHSS certifications requiredExperience with wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration, and documentation requiredCompetency in interpreting telemetry strips requiredExperience with chemotherapy administration preferred for Med / Surg Oncology unit; chemotherapy certification required to administerBenefits
