POSITION TITLE : HEAD CROSS COUNTRY / HALF MARATHON COACH
REPORTS TO : ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Lamar Community College invites applications for the position of Head Cross Country / Half Marathon Coach. We are seeking an accomplished and inspirational leader who will guide our student-athletes in pursuit of excellence both on the course and in the classroom. This part-time position carries responsibility for all aspects of program leadership, including training, competition, recruitment, compliance, and program administration. The Head Coach is expected to cultivate a culture of integrity, discipline, and respect while preparing student-athletes to compete at the highest levels. Equally important, the Coach will mentor and support student-athletes in their academic journeys, ensuring that success in athletics is matched by achievement in education and personal growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate team meetings while actively recruiting student-athletes who exemplify excellence in both athletics and academics.
- Design and execute comprehensive training and practice schedules that advance individual skill development and promote team success.
- Provide expert technical instruction in running mechanics, endurance training, race strategies, and competition preparation.
- Assess student-athlete performance during practices and competitions to refine technique, improve conditioning, and optimize competitive outcomes.
- Develop strategic race plans and program philosophies that align with the team’s capabilities and institutional goals.
- Monitor and support student-athlete academic performance, ensuring compliance with institutional and NJCAA eligibility requirements.
- Model integrity, sportsmanship, and professional conduct, setting a standard for student-athletes in competition, the classroom, and the community.
- Oversee the stewardship of athletic equipment, uniforms, and facilities, ensuring proper care, accountability, and maintenance.
- Serve as an ambassador for the program, representing the college with distinction to the media, alumni, booster organizations, and community stakeholders.
- Maintain strict compliance with all NJCAA, regional, and institutional rules and policies, ensuring a culture of accountability and excellence.
- Promote a culture of inclusion, equity, and respect that reflects the values of Lamar Community College and the broader athletics community.
- Maintain accurate records for eligibility, emergency protocols, insurance, equipment, and program administration.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director to develop recognition and awards policies, and prepare nominations for student-athlete honors.
- Participate actively in departmental events and traditions, including alumni functions, banquets, and award ceremonies.
- Partner with the Athletic Director to secure and manage facilities for training sessions, practices, and competitions.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree Required.Demonstrated coaching experience in cross country, track, or endurance running at the high school, collegiate, or competitive club level.Proven ability to teach, mentor, and motivate student-athletes using effective coaching strategies and training methodologies.Comprehensive knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of cross country and long-distance running.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships with student-athletes, administrators, faculty, and community partners.Commitment to fostering academic achievement, personal growth, and character development in student-athletes.Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or a related field.Previous collegiate-level coaching experience, with demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining student-athletes.Familiarity with NJCAA rules, compliance procedures, and eligibility standards.Salary
Salary : $17,655
