Under minimal supervision, the Water / Wastewater Plant Manager oversees the treatment, collection, distribution and daily operations of water plant facilities in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. Employees in this job class must be detail oriented. This job requires advanced knowledge and understanding of applicable water and wastewater regulations.

Typical duties include planning and developing work schedules, ensuring plant and operators comply with federal, state and local regulations, supervising employees, establishing and maintaining communication with federal agencies, customers and local councils, ensuring budgetary guidelines are met, maintaining a safe work environment, developing regulatory compliance reports, acting as a technical resource to field personnel and reviewing work in progress and completed.

Minimum qualifications include seven years of experience in water plant operations including five years in a supervisory role, knowledge of applicable water and wastewater regulations, supervisory skills, ability to communicate effectively, demonstrated leadership, exceptional customer service skills, advanced computer literacy, mathematical skills, ability to establish priorities and solve problems, and flexibility to respond to changing work priorities.

Education requirements include a Bachelor's in Business Administration or related field. Certificates or licenses required may include Fed Security Clearance, State Waste Water License, and a Valid Driver's License.

Physical requirements include the ability to monitor gauges, controls, and computer systems, lift materials up to 35 pounds, bend and stoop, and climb ladders. Work environment may require driving to and from worksite locations, and exposure to hazardous and / or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and external weather conditions.
