Fairfax County Department of Family Services Domestic and Sexual Violence Services (DSVS) is seeking a highly motivated, mission driven, strategic leader to join the DSVS leadership team as we continue to operationalize our five-year strategic plan, measure impact through data, build our grants management portfolio, and engage with stakeholders to build communities free from violence. ABOUT THE POSITION :

Under general supervision of the ADAPT Supervisor, this position performs the duties and responsibilities below :

  • Monitors requests for clinical services daily and responds promptly to requests for services
  • Answers questions about clinical services processes
  • Communicates with clients in their preferred language, in English or Spanish or through an interpreter in other languages using interpretation services as necessary
  • Communicates with referring partners, including behavioral health and advocacy, to facilitate referral to and from DSVS
  • Conducts initial screenings to assess risk / danger, and complete a safety plan, when needed
  • Provides information and referrals
  • Determines scheduling and location needs
  • Obtains informed consent and other initial intake documentation, and uploads these forms to client's charts in their electronic health record
  • Creates electronic health records for new clients
  • Prepares clients for telehealth services and troubleshoots challenges with access
  • Assigns clients seeking services to the counselor best suited to meet needs within the client's schedule and timeframe
  • Performs triage according to urgency of client needs and prioritizes clients accordingly, maintaining equity in promptness of assignment and balanced staff caseloads
  • Maintains contact with clients waiting for services and schedules an intake appointment at the earliest availability
  • Communicates closely with clinical services staff, supervisors, and administrative staff
  • Documents all communications with clients in the electronic health record and in within-office workflow management systems
  • Assists in the monthly collection of quality assurance data
  • Processes records requests in collaboration with the appropriate clinical services staff; sends release of information forms to clients in response to these requests when applicable
  • Coordinates division wide tracking of policies and procedures to ensure they are accurate and up to date
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the department and / or division
  • Provides rotational on-call shift coverage, which includes telephonically responding to calls to the Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP) line, telephonically supporting volunteers and Shelter House staff who manage the 24 / 7 Domestic and Sexual Violence Hotline after-hours, and in-person provision of hospital accompaniments at Inova Fairfax Hospital and satellite locations within 1 hour of a victim's scheduled appointment.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities :

  • Comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence, including the impact of trauma and the unique needs of both survivors and those who cause harm, to provide empathetic, informed, and balanced support while coordinating appropriate interventions and services.
  • Exhibits excellent organizational abilities, monitors workload independently, and efficiently manages time to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to build and sustain collaborative working relationships with Clinical Services Teams, DSVS programs, and community partners to ensure seamless and responsive experience for individuals seeking services
  • Ability to maintain professional ethics and confidentiality of client information.
  • Delivers clear, professional communication, particularly over the phone, with strong customer service abilities to ensure smooth interactions with clients, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Familiar with electronic healthcare record (EHR) systems and possesses knowledge of local community resources for effective client service coordination.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess client readiness, safety, and crisis status through clinical triage, while maintaining composure and professionalism when supporting callers in challenging or emotional situations.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus three years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

    None.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

    The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a Child Protective Services Registry check to the satisfaction of the employer.

    Ability to communicate clearly, orally in English and Spanish and in writing in English.

    This position is considered essential personnel and will be required to report to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency situation (i.e., weather, transportation, other disaster).

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master's degree in a field related to counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy
  • Direct work experience with clients in a clinical setting and / or advocacy with persons impacted by domestic or sexual violence
  • Specialized training related to behavioral health or advocacy (e.g., Mental Health First Aid, Trauma-Informed Care, or Domestic Violence Network Tier-One)
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

    Ability to read data on a computer monitor and operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to use automated technology to access, input, retrieve, and process information. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Ability to transport self to various work sites across the County not accessible via public transportation. This job is generally sedentary in nature. Work requires performing tasks with risk of secondary traumatic stress. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
