Job Title : Point of Care Lab Technician

Experience : Previous experience with phlebotomy and laboratory testing preferred.
License : Valid driver's license with a good driving record and ability to drive safely.
Certifications : Any certification / licensure needed per state requirements.
Must-Have : Vaccination against COVID-19 is a requirement for all individuals.
Description :
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs waived laboratory tests in a remote or mobile setting.
Responsible for monitoring the quality of reagents and the working condition of instruments.
Receives specimens from phlebotomists and couriers.
May operate a delivery van to transport the mobile lab to areas of high volume STAT testing when applicable.
Enters patient demographics and test orders into the lab information system.
Checks the quality control of each test prior to running and reporting patient results.
Ensures quality control is within appropriate limits and brings problems to a supervisor / manager in real time.
Performs lab testing in the areas of point of care, which may include Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular, and Coagulation.
Handles data entry of test results.
Confirms abnormal results prior to releasing and brings any rare and improbable test results to the attention of a supervisor / manager.
Performs blood collection, including venipuncture and capillary specimens.
Processes specimens and logs requisitions as needed.
Monitors the STAT board closely to ensure STAT turnaround time goals are consistently met.
Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures compliance with state requirements for documentation of lot numbers with quality control and specimen records.
Troubleshoots problems (client, instrument, computer) as needed.
Performs maintenance on automated instrumentation as needed.
Records quality control and maintains QC records on all assays performed.
Performs other tasks and procedures that are commensurate with education, training, and abilities.
Responsible for all clerical functions associated with specimen integrity, testing, identification, and reporting of department testing.
Follows all safety protocols as outlined in the safety manual.
The work environment may involve exposure to blood-borne pathogens, biological materials, hazardous substances, and radioactive material.
Appropriate training is provided regarding these hazards, and staff is expected to adhere to all health and safety policies at all times.
While performing duties, employees are frequently required to stand, handle or feel, talk, and hear.
Employees may occasionally be required to walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Employees may lift and / or move up to 15 pounds occasionally.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
No color visual deficiency is allowed.
