Responsibilities
- Assisting with the development of product design and functionality, addressing customer requirements and specifications
- Detailing, documenting, and maintaining required product design manuals and standards used in daily operational activities, including Manufacturing Engineering Standards (MES) and Engineering Change Notifications (ECN)
- Identifying and recommending corrective action for any issues with product design
- Analyzing elements of new design concepts or processes and assessing feasibility and effectiveness; making appropriate recommendations to management
- Analyzing test data and reports to determine if product design meets functional and performance standards and specifications, as well as having overall business viability
- Designing and guiding the construction of test products sent to outside lab test centers; will interface with lab staff as required
- Using engineering test results to assess possible alternate uses of the technology or product design
- Interfacing with others within the organization, as well as customers, to jointly identify customer needs and feasible solutions
- Providing manufacturing support to ensure the product is fabricated and assembled based on the intended functionality and application of the design, including guidance on prototype assemblies
- Engaging in failure analysis, determining appropriate corrective action, and ensuring the release of all affected staff and departments
- Providing consultation to outside vendors or subcontractors for the proper application and use of the product
- Fulfilling the financial control and risk management responsibilities inherent in the position
- Conducting yourself per the Company Code of Ethics policy at all times
Required Experience, Skills, Education & Certifications
An associate degree in Design Engineering or related field is preferred, with preference given to candidates with a bachelor's degreeMinimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably in residential or commercial construction, manufactured housing, or refrigerated warehousesTechnical writing background and building code familiarity preferredIntermediate level of skills in MS Office programs and AutoCAD 2000, Inventor, and 3D modeling softwareExcellent interpersonal, communication, speaking, writing, and math skillsStrong project management skills and the ability to interpret test results, think analytically, and have a pervasive level of knowledge regarding the limitations and applications of the productFamiliarity with electrical wiring diagrams and a basic understanding of a manufacturing environmentComfortable with engineering terminology and an ability to do geometric and trigonometric calculations and read blueprintsSome knowledge of carpentry / construction preferred in addition to a basic understanding of properties of steel, wood, and urethane; ability to conceptualize 2D and 3D shapesAbility to meet commitments and respond promptly to customer needsProven ability to take a total quality approach to all work and service opportunitiesDemonstrates safety awareness and commitment to associate safetyPhysical Requirements
