The Physical Therapist I performs initial evaluations and provides therapeutic interventions to a diverse patient population across inpatient, outpatient, and acute care settings. This is an entry-level role that functions as part of a multidisciplinary team and may rotate among various clinical areas. The PT collaborates with the Therapy Manager or Professional Practice Manager and follows all policies and procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct initial examinations, establish goals, plan and implement treatment plans.
- Perform timely re-examinations and adjust treatment goals as needed.
- Complete all required documentation, including evaluations, progress notes, monthly summaries, and discharge summaries.
- Provide training and education to families, caregivers, and medical personnel.
- Recommend necessary durable medical equipment; prepare letters of medical necessity.
- Participate in discharge planning and provide home exercise programs.
- Attend required rounds, conferences, in-services, and meetings.
- Assist with additional patient coverage based on staffing needs.
- Maintain attendance records, patient charges, and therapy statistics.
- Supervise Rehab Patient Care Associates, students, and volunteers as appropriate.
- Maintain active membership in the APTA.
Skills & Requirements
- 0–1 year of Physical Therapy experience.
- Active New York State Physical Therapy license required.
- Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
