Job Description

Position Overview

The Quality Inspector performs detailed dimensional and visual inspections of precision-machined aerospace components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with tight tolerances (±0.0002"), advanced inspection tools, and complex geometries common to rocket propulsion systems.

This role requires a meticulous, methodical, and quality-first mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections of CNC-machined components and assemblies.
  • Verify part dimensions using precision inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, vision systems / comparators, and CMMs.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and specifications to assess part conformance.
  • Document results in digital inspection reports via Proshop ERP.
  • Inspect for surface finish, FOD, and cosmetic quality appropriate for rocket engine hardware.
  • Work closely with machinists, deburr technicians, and engineers to identify non-conformances and suggest corrective actions.
  • Support root cause and corrective action investigations (RCCA) for quality issues.
  • Maintain calibration of inspection tools and uphold 5S standards in the inspection area.
  • Ensure strict adherence to ITAR, AS9100, and customer-specific quality requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in dimensional inspection of precision-machined components (aerospace or equivalent industry preferred).
  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting complex blueprints and GD&T.
  • Skilled in using precision measurement tools and documenting inspection data.
  • Knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, or NADCAP quality systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • U.S. Person (citizen or permanent resident) as required by ITAR.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience inspecting Inconel, titanium, or stainless steel aerospace components.
  • Experience with CMM programming or operation (PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, or similar).
  • Familiarity with non-contact inspection tools (e.g., laser scanning, optical systems).
  • Understanding of SPC, FAIRs (AS9102), and nonconformance documentation.
  • Previous experience inspecting rocket propulsion, turbomachinery, or flight hardware.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while inspecting small, intricate parts.
  • Manual dexterity for handling precision components and instruments.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
