Job Description
Under general direction, the Director of Study Abroad develops and directs study abroad programs, collaborates with faculty on development and implementation of faculty-led programs, creates and serves on the International Programs Advisory Board, and writes and oversees grants for external and internal funding among many other responsibilities listed below.
Responsibilities:
Direct Study Abroad, including strategy, program planning, and budget oversight.
Promote international opportunities and a global focus on campus.
Develop, implement, refine as necessary, and monitor rules and procedures of Study Abroad. Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
Support the Executive Director with exchange programs and sponsored student initiatives. Liaise with embassy officials, international education organizations, government officials, international agencies, etc., to achieve global recruiting objectives.
Administer study abroad programs and manage administrative and risk management issues.
Collaborate with the Executive Director and faculty on developing and implementing faculty-led programs, conducting site visits, assessing study abroad programs, and collaborating with contracts staff and the Office of the General Counsel staff as necessary to establish and administer affiliation agreements.
Serve as a liaison for faculty, administrators, and researchers for international activities.
Collaborate with the Executive Director to achieve the university's global objectives.
Serve on the International Programs Advisory Board and other committees regarding the university's global initiatives.
Establish and maintain professional networks with local, state, national, and international organizations.
Represent the university at approved international education-related events and activities to elevate PVAMU's International profile.
Write and oversee grants for external and internal funding to support international activities and contractual funding requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field.
Five years of related experience developing or managing international programs.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Knowledge of website development and social media.
Knowledge of international study program best practices and policies, laws, and regulations affecting education abroad students.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Effective problem-solving skills.
Preferred Education
Master's degree in an applicable field.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent decision-making and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including cross-cultural competencies.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with constituencies including, students, parents, faculty, administrators and external groups (e.g., international institutions, U.S. government officials and officials/individuals from other countries, community leaders.)
Proficient using standard office software applications.
