Brief Description of Duties
The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is conducting a national search for a visionary and dynamic leader to become the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS). The Dean of CAS is responsible for the academic and administrative leadership of the College, including but not limited to academic planning, enhancement of programs and curriculum, accreditation, recruitment, and retention of faculty and staff, faculty and staff development and evaluation, student recruitment, advising, placement, retention and the securing and allocation of resources. The Dean reports to the Chief Academic Officer and is responsible for assisting in fundraising, for fostering diversity, for the acquisition and advancement of technology and innovation, for promoting multi-disciplinary collaborative research partnerships, for promoting innovative teaching and learning strategies, and for supporting the University’s vision and goals. The Dean provides the overall policies and directions which guide the College.
The leadership provided by the Dean determines the success of the College as well as the quality of programs delivered to students. The Dean will show leadership across a diverse group of disciplines and be able to galvanize and motivate faculty, staff, and students. As a strong advocate for CAS, the Dean will foster an environment committed to continuously improving its administrative systems and structure, raising its visibility, and supporting the advancement of its scholarship and research for faculty, staff, and students.
As a University leader, the CAS Dean will join the Chief Academic Officer and President Maurice Edington to actualize the president’s overarching vision to position UDC as a leading national public urban university through the implementation of the new comprehensive strategic plan. The incumbent functions as Dean, College of Arts and Sciences, Office of the Provost and Vice President, Academic Affairs, University of the District of Columbia and has responsibility for performing the following duties.
