Position Summary :
The Manufacturing / Quality Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing CNC machining processes for both new and existing products. This role plays a key part in improving manufacturing efficiency, driving quality, and safety while reducing costs. The Manufacturing / Quality Engineer will lead cross-functional improvement initiatives, as well as collaborate closely with the Quality department to spear head quality and scrap issues as they arise.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and implement machining processes for new products, including quality control plans, gaging strategies, and shop floor routings.
- Identify and execute process improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency, including conducting time studies and workflow analysis.
- Lead continuous improvement projects (e.g., Kaizen, SMED, Root Cause Analysis / Corrective Action).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, CNC Programming, Quality, Operations, Sales, and Quoting.
- Design and specify cutting tools, workholding, fixturing, gaging, and related components to support manufacturing and quality.
- Procure shop floor commodities such as gages, fixturing, and cutting tools.
- Provide hands-on support for troubleshooting and resolving machining issues on the production floor (Root Cause, 5 Why, Corrective Action).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a modern, lean oriented CNC manufacturing environment.Proficient in 2D CAD (AutoCAD) and 3D modeling software (Inventor or SolidWorks).Demonstrated experience with CNC programming principles, cutting tools, and machining operations.Demonstrated experience with multiple gaging platforms (Micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bench gages, etc., as well as the ability to read CMM inspection reports.)Project management experience.Ability to interpret engineering drawings including GD&T, shop floor routings, BOMs, and quality specifications.Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.Commitment to safety, quality, on-time delivery (OTD), and customer satisfaction.Physical Requirements :
Ability to move freely between office and manufacturing environments.Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach regularly while working on the shop floor.Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 45 lbs occasionally.Visual acuity to read engineering drawings, use precision measurement tools, and review computer-based data.Work Environment :
This role requires a balance of office and manufacturing floor responsibilities, with approximately 50% of the time spent in an office / engineering setting (design, planning, data analysis, and collaboration) and 50% on the manufacturing floor (hands-on troubleshooting, process improvements, and quality support). The position involves exposure to machine noise, dust, oil, and chemicals while on the shop floor, with required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy and legal regulations.
