Overview
Sparkman Family Medicine is seeking a dedicated full-time Pediatrician to join our team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive care to pediatric patients with complex medical and behavioral needs at Nexus Childrens Hospital in Houston, with occasional assistance at the Shenandoah location. You will collaborate with nurse practitioners and multidisciplinary teams, including Family Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Psychiatry specialists, to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care in a supportive environment focused on long-term recovery and quality of life improvement.
Patient Population
Our programs cater to children, adolescents, and young adults with complex medical, behavioral, and developmental challenges. Key programs include :
- Nexus NEW DIRECTIONS Program (Houston Location) : A medical-behavioral program treating young people with medical conditions alongside severe intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDDs), such as Autism Spectrum Disorder. The program promotes medical regulation, reduces behavioral dysregulation, teaches social and behavioral skills, and equips caregivers with tools for ongoing support at home, school, and in the community. This multidisciplinary approach is unique and not offered by other programs.
- Nexus True North Program (Shenandoah Location) : A comprehensive continuum of care addressing mental, behavioral, and physical health struggles. It combines clinical methodology, rehabilitation techniques, behavioral interventions, and ongoing medical care to guide patients toward recovery. The program provides a warm, friendly environment for medically complex individuals, often those with behavioral, mood, or psychiatric challenges stemming from conditions like trauma, injury, diabetes, spina bifida, and others.
- Nexus HARBOR (Shenandoah Location) : Offers holistic care with a team including primary care physicians, neurologists, physical medicine specialists, psychiatrists, rehabilitative therapists, dietitians, case managers, and social workers. Unlike traditional hospitals with step-down ICUs, Nexus provides all services under one roof, adapting to patients' progress. Ideal for those with traumatic injuries, chronic illnesses, or rare conditions requiring long-term rehabilitative and medical support, especially after lengthy hospitalizations.
- Nexus RISE (Shenandoah Location) : A rehabilitation program for individuals post-brain and spinal cord injury, stroke, or other neurological conditions. It uses an interdisciplinary approach with individualized treatment plans to improve function, independence, and quality of life. Includes a Disorders of Consciousness Program for patients with altered arousal or limited environmental interaction from brain injuries.
