We are seeking a skilled Microsoft Access Database Developer Consultant for a 3-month contract to lead the upgrade of our legacy Microsoft Access database from .mdb to .accdb format and support the transition from Office 2013 to Office 2019. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Microsoft Access development, database migration, and Office suite upgrades, ensuring a seamless transition with minimal disruption to operations.
Key Responsibilities
oAnalyze the existing .mdb database structure, forms, queries, macros, and VBA code.
oUpgrade the database to .accdb format, ensuring compatibility with Microsoft Access 2019.
oIdentify and resolve any deprecated features or compatibility issues during the migration.
oOptimize database performance and implement best practices for the .accdb format.
oCollaborate with IT teams to support the transition from Office 2013 to Office 2019.
oTest and validate database functionality in the Office 2019 environment.
oUpdate or rewrite VBA code, macros, and scripts to ensure compatibility with Office 2019.
oDocument the migration process, including any changes to database structure or code.
oProvide user guides or training materials for end-users to adapt to the updated database.
oTrain internal staff on new features or changes resulting from the upgrade.
oConduct thorough testing of the migrated database to ensure data integrity and functionality.
oTroubleshoot and resolve any issues related to the database or Office upgrade.
oWork closely with project managers, IT staff, and end-users to gather requirements and ensure alignment with business needs.
oProvide regular updates on project progress and escalate issues as needed.
Qualifications
o5+ years of experience in Microsoft Access database development and administration.
oProven track record of successfully migrating .mdb databases to .accdb format.
oExperience with Office suite upgrades, particularly from Office 2013 to newer versions.
oExpertise in Microsoft Access (versions 2013–2019), including forms, queries, reports, macros, and VBA programming.
oStrong understanding of database design, normalization, and optimization techniques.
oFamiliarity with SQL Server integration or other backend systems is a plus.
oKnowledge of Office 2019 compatibility and feature differences from Office 2013.
