American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Ellsworth, Maine.

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med / Surg Registered Nurse for night shifts in Maine requiring a ME or compact RN license and two years of recent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Med / Surg unit within a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes total joints, general medical / surgical, appendicitis, bowel procedures, urology, CHF, pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes, and complex medical cases with addiction
  • The unit contains 27 beds as part of a 64-bed hospital
  • Night shift schedule is 7 : 00 PM to 7 : 00 AM, 36 hours per week
  • RN patient ratios are 1 : 5-6 on days and 1 : 6-7 on nights
  • May float to ICU for Med Surg level care and to the ED to assist as needed
  • Cerner charting system is used
  • Every other weekend rotation is required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Holiday coverage includes two out of four major holidays as needed
  • Charge nurses typically take patient assignments on most shifts
  • 24 / 7 support includes hospitalist and respiratory therapy
  • One shift of unit-based orientation and general hospital orientation are provided
  • Nurses are expected to make two IV start attempts before requesting assistance
  • Centralized tele-monitoring tech is used for patient monitoring
  • Professional scrubs in any color are allowed
  • Free parking is available onsite
  • Travel pairs can generally work the same weekends, but may not be placed on the same position
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

    • Requirements

  • Active ME or compact RN license
  • Minimum two years of recent Med / Surg RN experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; ACLS is preferred
  • Willingness to be trained as Charge RN and work in that capacity as needed
  • Experience with chest tubes, tracheostomies, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, and IV antibiotics preferred
  • Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
  • Must not have worked in any Northern Light Health hospital in a permanent capacity
  • Candidate’s permanent address must be at least 100 miles south or southwest of Bangor, Maine (489 State St.), per eligibility criteria
  • Flu vaccination required for all starts after 9 / 30 / 2024, with medical exemptions reviewed by client
