Physician - Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Ocular Oncology Oph

Overview

The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek an Ocular Oncology Ophthalmologist to join the Retina Division within the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience. This is a full-time clinical or clinician-scientist position in Ocular Oncology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for patient care, research, and education in Ocular Oncology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Department / Division Overview

Duties and Responsibilities

The Division Director and / or Department Chair assigns work. Each faculty member is expected to perform the full range of responsibilities in teaching, research / scholarship, and service. Clinical services are a component of faculty responsibility, with or without the presence of a trainee. There will be opportunities to pursue research, quality improvement initiatives, curriculum development, and education initiatives, or other activities consistent with the faculty assignment, in consultation with the Department Chair. Faculty members are expected to teach, which may include clinical or didactic teaching and may involve medical students, residents, fellows, undergraduate and graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. Service commitments will include service at OSUWMC facilities and other clinical sites as assigned. Active participation in divisional, departmental, and college committee functions is expected. Participation in local, regional, or national professional organizations is also expected.

Requirements

• Due to contractual agreements with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. citizenship is required for participation in this role.
• Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in Ophthalmology by the time of appointment and be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio.
• Qualified candidates must hold an MD or DO degree and have completed an approved residency program in Ophthalmology, as well as subspecialty fellowship training in Retina.
• Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and academic credentials.
• Knowledge and proficiency in medical and surgical management of Ocular Oncology.
• Demonstrated interest in scholarship and discovery by evidence of basic and / or clinical applied research and publications.
• Commitment to residents, fellows, and medical students is required.

Faculty Defined

Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned an MD, DO, PhD or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and / or research.

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), MD, DO or other terminal degree. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO or MD / PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
