Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer with 7+ years of civil engineering experience to support and manage a range of municipal and infrastructure projects. This role involves working on behalf of local governments, school districts, and private developers, overseeing the planning, design, and coordination of projects such as roads, utility systems, recreational facilities, public buildings, and land development applications. The Project Engineer will report directly to the Office Manager, supporting projects throughout the surrounding region.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary liaison and project manager for assigned municipal and public agency clients, acting as the main point of contact for all project activities.
Coordinate and oversee multiple engineering assignments to ensure quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
Apply a thorough understanding of municipal land use laws, development review procedures, bonding requirements, and compliance processes for planning board projects.
Develop practical and cost-effective engineering solutions for municipal infrastructure maintenance and improvement.
Prepare design plans and specifications for transportation, water, sewer, drainage, and site development projects using AutoCAD or similar tools.
Analyze technical data such as survey reports, maps, blueprints, and topographical information to guide design and construction decisions.
Perform hydraulic and structural calculations, including load, grade, and flow analyses, to support system design and project feasibility studies.
Estimate construction costs, quantities, materials, and labor to ensure project viability and adherence to budget.
Conduct studies on traffic, environmental conditions, and site layouts to assess potential impacts and design adjustments.
Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and government regulations across all project phases.
Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and coordinating with field inspectors.
Attend municipal and public meetings to present engineering reports, project updates, and development reviews in a professional and effective manner.
Advise clients on design alternatives, capital planning, and infrastructure upgrades.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Previous experience in municipal or public infrastructure projects preferred.
Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, design standards, and municipal review processes.
Proficient with AutoCAD and other design or modeling software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead presentations at public meetings.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently when needed.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Primarily office-based with occasional fieldwork at active project sites and public meetings.
Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally and work in various outdoor weather conditions during field visits.
Frequent computer use required.
Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle required.
