Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a busy Emergency Department day shift with recent acute ER experience and ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a community-based Emergency Department handling a wide range of patient diagnoses including respiratory, GI / GU, cardiac, neuro, minor trauma, OB / GYN, integumentary, and pediatrics
  • Provide initial medical care for strokes, STEMIs, major trauma, and pediatric patients prior to transfer
  • Special procedures include chest tubes, thoracentesis, paracentesis, RSI, splinting, procedural sedation, restraints, vacuum D&C, central lines, and ultrasound-guided IVs
  • Utilize equipment such as Rapid Infuser, EZ IO, Lifepack 15 and 20, GE monitors, GE EKG, and Glidescope
  • Day shifts are 4x12 hours, 6 : 30-19 : 00, with every other weekend required (at least 3 weekends every 6 weeks)
  • No floating required unless otherwise stated
  • EPIC charting experience preferred
  • Collaborate with 24 / 7 ED physician coverage and midlevel providers, with strong team support from charge RNs, PCTs, and other nursing staff
  • Typical day shift staffing includes charge RN plus 2-3 additional RNs and patient care techs
  • Modules are completed onsite during orientation and recorded by transcripts
  • Any color scrubs are allowed, but cannot have logos
  • A maximum of 3 days of requested time off will be auto-approved, and no time off is allowed during the first week of orientation
  • First-time travelers are welcome if meeting ER experience requirements
  • Requirements

  • Active NM or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
  • Minimum 2-3 years recent experience in a progressive or acute ER required for first-time travelers
  • Recent acute ER experience required
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify
  • Former permanent staff must have a separation of at least 1 year before being eligible as a traveler
  • No travel pairs or groups accepted
