The Senior Legal Counsel, Americas will be the lead legal advisor for the Leica business operations in the US, Canada, Central and South America and Caribbean (LMS Americas). The successful candidate will oversee, manage and develop the Legal function located in and supporting LMS Americas and will work closely with the LMS Americas commercial and operations leadership teams, participating in team meetings and providing necessary legal support for both the daily business operations and strategic initiatives. Additionally, the Senior Legal Counsel will participate in global projects and initiatives to create or improve processes and standard work for use by the LMS Legal team and its clients.

The Senior Legal Counsel, Americas will be responsible to :

  • Negotiate, develop strategy for, and draft commercial transactions, contracts, and other legal arrangements including key collaboration agreements, distribution, dealer and sales transactions, public tenders
  • Support governance activities of legal entities across the region with support from local counsel where required and partner with Regional leadership to drive compliant business practices in the sale and marketing of medical devices and research products
  • Develop appropriate approaches to dispute resolution, lawsuits, and arbitrations; provide regular, clear communication of litigation issues and opportunities and manage litigation and government investigations with the support of local / external counsel;
  • Conduct internal, inclusive of Compliance investigations in the Americas or support Legal, Compliance, HR or other colleagues in conducting investigations in the Americas as well as conduct Legal and Compliance training in a variety of areas (for example General legal topics such as Attorney-Client Privilege, Good Communications, Anti-Competition, Anti-Bribery, Compliance policies, Privacy, Grants / Donations / Sponsorships, HCP Interactions, etc.);
  • Assist Leica and Danaher with mergers & acquisitions in the Americas, from due diligence to documentation and integration

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills :

  • At least 8 years of experience working at both a reputable law firm, and in-house in the Health Care sector, preferably in a multinational Medical Devices or Pharma company. Extensive exposure to and success in a dynamic business environment. Excellent academic credentials and a qualified lawyer (Bar member) in the US.
  • Business minded. A positive, energetic, self-motivated personality, able to explain complex legal points to business leaders with varying degrees of sophistication about legal matters; able to take business leaders' concerns and demands into account in how best to pursue legal strategies. Intelligent and articulate with excellent written and verbal communication skills; nimble and quick-minded; able and willing to engage in debate.
  • A team player who is able to command the respect of, and influence, business leaders and outside counsel across a wide spectrum of experience and sophistication. Able to work effectively with lower level employees, yet communicate with effectiveness and polish at the most senior levels.
  • Experience in Health Care Compliance, including with anti-corruption programs and Data Privacy and with managing other lawyers and / or paralegals.
  • High integrity and ethics in all dealings - internal, external and personal; non-political in conduct, while understanding internal and external dynamics. Able to refuse to accept, and to correct unethical conduct or outcomes that threaten the business.
  • We currently offer the following position in our office in will be Deer Park, IL or Waltham, MA onsite.

    The salary range OR the hourly range for this role is $160,000-$180,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

    This job is also eligible for bonus / incentive pay.
