The Part-Time Campus Safety Officer at Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment on campus by patrolling the grounds, responding to incidents, and assisting students, faculty, and staff. This role involves a combination of preventive measures, emergency response, and customer service to ensure the well-being of the campus community. The part-time campus safety officer will report directly to the Assistant Vice President of Campus Safety and Compliance.
This role encompasses security response, risk assessment, emergency response, and fostering a culture of safety awareness by performing day-to-day security operations. Through close collaboration with the AVP of Campus Safety and Compliance, the part-time campus safety officer will help to identify potential security risks, monitor surveillance systems and respond to alerts as needed. The part-time campus safety officer will be responsible for providing student and staff assistance, responding to incidents, enforcing campus policies, patrolling the building and providing front desk coverage to ensure the established visitor policy is followed. The part-time campus safety officer should be experienced in maintaining composure in high-pressure situations and employing technology-driven security solutions to protect the campus community, including access controls and surveillance technologies that prevent unauthorized access and safeguard valuable resources.
The ideal candidate will exhibit skills in building relationships and possess experience in emergency preparedness, incident response, and crisis management.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Patrol and Surveillance :
- Conduct regular patrols of campus buildings, grounds, and parking areas.
- Monitor surveillance systems and respond to alerts as needed.
- Identify and report safety hazards or security concerns to appropriate personnel.
Incident Response :
Respond promptly to emergency calls and incidents, including medical emergencies, disturbances, and security breaches.Provide first aid or CPR if required and assist with the coordination of emergency services.Document incidents and prepare reports for follow-up and review.Student and Staff Assistance :
Assist students, faculty, and staff with safety-related questions or concerns.Provide directions, escorts, and support as needed.Foster a positive and approachable presence on campus to encourage a sense of security.Enforcement of Policies :

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 3 years' experience in campus safety, security, emergency preparedness, incident management, law enforcement or related fieldsAbility to obtain a New York State armed security guard license.EMT Certification preferredPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods while patrolling campus grounds and buildings.Ability to sit, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach as part of daily patrol and incident response activities.Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.Must have sufficient physical agility to respond quickly in emergency situations, including running short distances, restraining individuals if necessary, and providing physical assistance to others.Must possess adequate vision and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) to observe, monitor, and communicate effectively in person, via radio, and through surveillance systems.Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and to tolerate moderate exposure to noise, temperature changes, and environmental hazards typical of campus settings.
