Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Acute unit night shift position in a Level 1 trauma setting, requiring an active IL RN license and PALS certification.
Responsibilities
Acute care pediatric unit with shared beds for general pediatrics and hematology / oncology patientsCommon patient types include medical / surgical cases such as hyperbilirubinemia, neuro, diabetes, failure to thrive, cystic fibrosis, COVID, and orthopedic conditionsNurse to patient ratio is 1 : 4 and patient care techs (PCTs) at a ratio of 1 : 8-1012-hour night shifts (1900-0730) with every other weekend requirement (Fri / Sat for nights)Level 1 trauma center with floating required to other pediatric units or mom / baby, but not to ICUs unless experienced and never to chemo patientsCare for monitored patients with oversight from a pediatric monitor techUses Epic charting system (EMR)Heated high-flow and BiPAP equipment managed according to set parametersCharge RN and pediatric crisis nurse available 24 / 7 along with administrative supervisor supportUnit offers 22 beds for general pediatrics and 10 for pediatric hematology / oncology, with the flexibility to adjust based on censusHospitalists in-house until midnight and 24 / 7 resident coverageStandard dress code allows any pediatric-appropriate scrub tops and solid color scrub pants, with options for a jacket or long sleeves underneathUnit / department-specific orientation is provided, typically consisting of 2 shifts with extensions possible if neededHoliday coverage required unless otherwise discussed and approved during interviewRequirements
Active Illinois RN license or proof that application is in processMinimum 2 years of pediatric acute care RN experience requiredCurrent BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) certifications requiredAbility to pass a drug screen for all panelsExperience using Epic EMR strongly preferredBenefits
