Job description

Senior Product Manager - AI & Machine Learning

SimpliSafe is a leading innovator in the home security industry, dedicated to making every home a safe home. With a mission to provide accessible and comprehensive security solutions, we design and build user-centric products that empower individuals and families to protect what matters most. We believe in a collaborative and agile environment where learning and growth are continuous. Our teams are composed of talented individuals who are passionate about technology, security, and delivering exceptional customer experiences. We're embracing a hybrid work model that enables our teams to split their time between office and home.

Hybrid for us means we expect our teams to come together in our state-of-the-art office on two core days, typically Tuesday and Wednesday, to work together in person, and teams can choose where they work for the remainder of the week. We all benefit from flexibility and get to use the best of both worlds to get our work done.

About the Role

As a Senior Product Manager - AI & Machine Learning, you will be a product management expert tapped to lead the most critical AI projects and programs. You will work with cross-functional teams to define and deliver new product service experiences, leveraging your deep understanding of technology, business, and customer needs to lead thinking on our AI-powered products and services. You will have the latitude to operate independently while navigating ambiguous problems, identifying new opportunities, and bringing new concepts to life. You will be the "go-to" person for complex AI projects, sought out for your broad skills within and outside of the product teams. You will also be responsible for staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the rapidly evolving field of AI, especially generative AI and foundational models. You will be expected to go beyond "assigned" projects to identify issues and opportunities and propose AI-based solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Define and articulate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for AI and machine learning products, aligning with overall company goals.
  • Lead the end-to-end AI product development lifecycle, from concept to launch, ensuring products meet customer needs and business objectives. This includes defining clear metrics for success and being open to pivoting based on user feedback.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor products, especially in generative AI, to drive continuous innovation. This includes understanding new Large Language Modes (LLM) and Vision Language Model (VLM) capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including other product managers, engineering, data science, design, legal, compliance, marketing, and sales, to drive the development and launch of high-quality AI products. You will need to work closely with data scientists, ML engineers, and data engineers.
  • Work closely with technical teams to understand the feasibility and limitations of proposed AI solutions, including the implications of using different foundational models, RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation), and fine-tuning.
  • Prioritize features and functionality based on a combination of customer feedback, market opportunities, business goals, and technical constraints.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the success of AI products, and use data to drive continuous improvement. This includes defining model and business outcome metrics.
  • Monitor product adoption, user satisfaction, and revenue metrics to inform future product iterations.
  • Develop and implement testing strategies that involve customers early in the development process, even after the first week of implementation, to gather feedback and iterate rapidly. This includes encouraging pilot projects to test AI ideas.
  • Be able to explain the entire architecture of AI products to customers and stakeholders, including how data is handled, how models are trained, and why specific approaches are used.
  • Ensure the ethical and responsible use of AI, including addressing data privacy concerns, avoiding bias, and incorporating guardrails. You will act as a voice for ethical AI and highlighting risks.
  • Understand data dependencies and collaborate across teams to access necessary data for AI solutions, working with data sourcing and annotation teams. You should also understand data privacy regulations.
  • Establish robust feedback loops to analyze and retrain models, and prioritize which feedback to incorporate.

Qualification

  • 8+ years of proven experience as a Product Manager, with a focus on AI and machine learning products, including experience with computer vision and generative AI.
  • Strong technical background and understanding of machine learning algorithms, AI techniques, and data science principles. You should be comfortable discussing model performance, accuracy, and interpretability.
  • Demonstrated success in launching and managing complex, innovative AI products.
  • Experience with building and testing AI-powered apps or features using various computer vision models in the cloud and edge.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve efficiency and automate tasks, for example, using LLMs.
  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • About You

  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get things done.
  • Loves and thrives in ambiguous environments. You should be comfortable with non-deterministic results and iterative development.
  • A data-driven mindset that encourages debate and critical thinking with quick decisions. You should be proficient in data analysis and understand data as a key component of user experience.
  • Strong writing ability, presentation, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to leverage data, intuition, and experience to make recommendations and make decisions. Can make novel connections to draw insightful conclusions.
  • Strong influence and leadership skills, with the ability to lead large, complex projects requiring multi-functional collaboration, input, and alignment.
  • A mindset that promotes continuous learning and staying updated with the latest AI trends and technologies.
  • What Values You'll Share

  • Customer Obsessed - Building deep empathy for our customers, putting them at the core of our work, and developing strong, long-term relationships with them.
  • Aim High - Always challenging ourselves and others to raise the bar.
  • No Ego - Maintaining a "no job too small" attitude, and an open, inclusive, and humble style.
  • One Team - Taking a highly collaborative approach to achieving success.
  • Lift As We Climb - Investing in developing others and helping others around us succeed.
  • Lean & Nimble - Working with agility and efficiency to experiment in an often ambiguous environment.
  • What We Offer

  • A mission- and values-driven culture and a safe, inclusive environment where you can build, grow, and thrive.
  • A comprehensive total rewards package that supports your wellness and provides security for SimpliSafers and their families.
  • Free SimpliSafe system and professional monitoring for your home.
  • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that bring people together, give opportunities to network, mentor and develop, and advocate for change.
  • We wholeheartedly embrace and actively seek applications from all individuals, no matter how they identify. We are committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace, and we believe our work is enriched when we incorporate a multitude of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. We want everyone who works here to thrive and contribute to not only our mission of keeping every home secure, but also to making our workplace safe and supportive for others. If a reasonable accommodation may be needed to fully participate in the job application or interview process, to perform the essential functions of a position, or to receive other benefits and privileges of employment, please contact careers@simplisafe.com.
