Counsel – Field Operations & Employment Law – Safeway
The Counsel – Field Operations & Employment Law will play a key role within the Albertsons Companies legal team. You will work directly with warehousing and distribution operations leadership and advise on all aspects of employment law for the workforce. This position provides day-to-day advice, resolves pre-litigation disputes, conducts internal investigations and handles administrative claims, including OSHA complaints. It also provides support for a variety of commercial agreements, including pre-contract support and resolving disputes over existing agreements. The role supports the entire Field Operations and Employment team regarding employment law matters, including managing class action litigation.
The position will be based in Pleasanton, CA or Boise, ID and offers relocation.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day legal guidance to minimize risk across warehousing and distribution operations.
- Advise on employment law matters for the workforce, including investigations and claims.
- Support legal aspects of warehouse automation, robotics and digital inventory systems.
- Counsel on liability issues related to damaged goods, theft, delays and breach of contract.
- Collaborate with Asset Protection, Human Resources, Management and Labor Relations to investigate and defend claims by current and former employees.
- Provide advice on employment discrimination, wage and hour, ADA and other employment-related matters.
- Work with regulatory counsel to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations including OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and environmental laws.
- Train human resources and managers to mitigate regulatory and employment risks.
Qualifications / What We Are Looking For
Minimum of 7+ years in private practice and / or in-house legal department experience in relevant areas, with prior warehousing or distribution experience required.Substantive knowledge of employment laws and regulations, administrative procedures, court rules and legal research skills.Strong negotiation, decision making, interviewing, investigation, and problem-solving skills.Good judgment, collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to work independently and exercise excellent judgment and discretion.Ability to translate legal requirements into practical, scalable solutions for the operations team.Excellent oral and written communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills.Occasional travel required.Regular and predictable attendance.Benefits

The salary range is $140,000 to $215,000 annually. Starting salary will vary based on location, experience and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.
