Why This Role Matters
The Washington Post is looking for a transformative technical accounting manager to join the leadership team of our Financial Accounting department. You will cultivate a team of high‑performing senior accountants, provide timely and accurate financial information, and drive process improvements across the business.
This role reports to the Controller.

How You'll Support The Mission
Ensure the department operates efficiently without sacrificing accuracy, meeting monthly and annual reporting deadlines.Coach and mentor senior accounting staff, facilitating their professional growth.Review and approve period close work, including journal entries, accruals, variance analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations.Recommend and implement improvements to policy documentation and procedures to enhance financial reporting quality.Supervise the preparation and delivery of financial reports or statements for management, stakeholders, and external parties.Provide input in the annual budget and interim forecasts, supporting schedules.Collaborate with tax, payroll, and financial operations and planning departments on monthly and annual reporting.Prepare technical accounting papers and interpret authoritative guidance for the Controller.Support other departments in ensuring the financial impact of strategic decisions is properly accounted for.Prepare ad‑hoc financial analyses and other duties as assigned.Skills And Experience You Bring
Degree in Accounting (CPA required).10+ years of general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, and review experience, including 2+ years of supervisory experience.Demonstrated understanding of accounting and financial concepts.Clear and concise communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.Experience with automation and project management tools, including Alteryx and Asana.Knowledge of Oracle, Workday, BNA Bloomberg, and Blackline.Ability to work effectively in a team environment.Detail‑oriented with initiative in research and follow‑through.Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Ability to read and analyze financial reports.Collaboration Makes Us Stronger

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications.
